Route 66

The historic highway once followed the expansion of the United States, from the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago into the Midwest, across the Great Plains and through the Southwestern desert to Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean. Although replaced by larger highways I-40 and I-10, more than 80 percent of old Route 66 remains driveable, as a collection of off-the-beaten-path state highways and local roads.

Iconic Americana

The »Main Street of America« became a highway of dreams for many young travelers. It features in songs about escape, freedom and adventure. The blues song »Route 66« was composed by Bobby Troup and first recorded by Nat King Cole in 1946. It has been covered many times since then.
